About
My name is Sean Robinson, and I started Royal Oak Custom Woodwork because I became tired of seeing things built to be thrown away.
I grew up in a small town in England and spent much of my working life in completely different industries — from factory work to commercial management and quantity surveying. In 2023, my wife and I moved our family to California, where life unexpectedly slowed down for me while I waited for my legal work status to be finalized.
During that time, I became the primary caregiver for our two young children. For the first time in years, I had the space to really think about what kind of life I wanted to build — not just financially, but personally.
I knew eventually I would need to return to work, but after years behind a desk, I couldn’t ignore the feeling that I wanted something different. I wanted flexibility. I wanted to build something with my hands. Most importantly, I wanted more time with my children.
As we furnished our home, I kept noticing how poorly modern furniture was made. I would assemble flat-pack pieces that felt weak before they were even finished. Cheap fittings. Thin materials. Furniture designed to fail and be replaced.
That never sat right with me.
I believe if something isn’t built to last, it shouldn’t be built at all.
So I started Royal Oak Custom Woodwork with a different approach — creating furniture that is personal, repairable, and made to stay in a family for generations. Pieces that fit your home properly. Pieces with character. Pieces that carry stories over time instead of ending up on the curb a few years later.
Everything I build is made with the intention that it can one day be repaired, restored, and handed down. Because good furniture should grow old with you.
